This machine moves million$.

Bloomberg’s technology powers global financial markets. To mark the 40th anniversary of the Bloomberg Terminal, we created a series of animated shorts to explain how innovation still drives everything we do. We wanted to tell our innovation story in our engineers’ own words – not marketing speak. That presented us with a copywriting challenge: how to boil down complex concepts into scripts of around 60 seconds that were not only tonally authentic but technically accurate, told a coherent story (in multiple voices) and could be illustrated in animation.

Episode 01 - ‘New York, 9.30am’ or how Bloomberg built and manages systems that handle over 200 billion pieces of real-time financial data a day, including millions-per-second at peak moments, such as market opens.

We interviewed 25 of our 6,500+ engineers, technologists and data scientists, recording over 700 minutes of conversation.

We then created stories based on their input and refined scripts through multiple revisions, liaising with the speakers, internal stakeholders and an external animation house throughout the process. Our storytelling approach and copywriting process landed us a Silver in the Craft category at the Global ACE Awards.

Episode 02 - ‘40 Years of Innovation. In 1982, the Terminal revolutionized financial markets. It remains at the cutting edge as our engineers continually evolve its technology to stay ahead of change.

Episode 03 - A deep dive into UI and UX design of the Bloomberg Terminal.

The power and depth of Bloomberg’s technology, explained for the first time.

Episode 04 - Terminal users are change averse. With good reason: they use it to make high-value decisions. Our UX team has perfected the art of maximizing value while minimizing disruption to users.
